The decision to come to Morocco as a choice of host country for exchange was not an easy one. This was because of people’s general perception of Morocco being an unsafe country to live in. As a rule, I choose not to believe « hearsay » from others especially when they have not actually visited the country itself. Hence, I was still determined to pursue my exchange programme in Casablanca with ESCA. I came with an open mind and little expectations. Casablanca has always been a place that interests me for years. This inquisition was fueled by the Hollywood movie « Casablanca ». I became further curious after a few of seniors I know did their exchange program in Morocco with Esca. To say the least, Morocco has broaden my perspectives about the world economy in the African market. The case studies taught in Esca helped fuel my understanding of the emerging market that has an interesting demography which poses both challenges and opportunities for businesses. The whole experience in Morocco has been fulfilling. There is so many cities to see with so many differing cultures. there are definitely shortcomings about Morocco when compared to first world countries. Nevertheless, I would still recommend anyone who is willing to step out of his/her comfort zone to experience Morocco and it’s unique environment

The one thing I will truly cherish from ESCA are the friends I made here. The local students have been very welcoming and forthcoming since Day 1 that I step foot onto Moroccan shores. It shows the warm Moroccan culture. I’ve been blessed to have been invited by their families for meals and occasional ‘hangouts’. Indeed one can never get the true experience if one does not step foot into a local’s home! Being a very small campus, has also proven to be a blessing. It makes it easier for us to meet one another along the corridor, always being greeted by smiles and chats from familiar faces.

« Spring 2018 was my last semester as an undergrad student at GSU. I had the opportunity to participate in the study abroad program in Morocco and it was one of the best experiences of my life. Africa was an unknown continent for me and I wanted to learn about it while having a deep immersion in the culture. ESCA made my experience unforgettable, the staff was always attentive and made us feel welcome the minute we arrived at the airport. My favorite part was having the opportunity to spend time with the students inside and outside the classroom. We created peer to peer connections and friendships that are hard to replicate on the web. The schedule was carefully planned, and we were able to visit and enjoy many historical and cultural places. I wish we had more time to explore and interact with locals but I’m more than thankful for everything that I learned and experienced.

« I am one of the lucky students who had the opportunity to experience the exchange semester abroad, my destination for the spring semester 2016 was Hong Kong. First, it is the hub of the biggest international organizations and one of the busiest cities around the world. It offered me the chance to explore a buzzing metropolis with a diverse population and get the best of both worlds a progressive, liberal economy as well as the traditional Chinese way of life. This also translates to the city’s cultural life, which consists of a rich mix of Asian and Western influences, you can find traditional Chinese Hot pots next door to a branch of Starbucks. Second, Hong Kong’s goal of becoming an international higher education hub thanks to its high-performing universities, world-class research, and attractive lifestyle. Unlike other Asian countries, 80 percent of Hong Kong population speaks English at a very good level, and that is very important for getting familiarized with other cultures and make the daily life easy for visitors, expats or even international students like me. My campus life, was just perfect, as I have had a good accommodation with both local and international students, it offered me the opportunity to discover the Chinese student’s lifestyle and share some very funny souvenirs. This experience has further grew my personality and taught me a lot of good things I wouldn’t have learnt if I stayed in my “comfort zone ».
